Narnia: The Magician's Nephew: Everything We Know

What's the Big Deal?

Narnia: The Magician's Nephew adapts C. S. Lewis's 1955 novel. It's the sixth Narnia book to be published but the first in story order, the one that shows how Narnia began. Greta Gerwig wrote and directed it, her first film since Barbie.

The book follows Digory and his friend Polly, two children in London who are tricked by Digory's uncle Andrew into testing his magic rings. The rings send them to other worlds, and they end up seeing something nobody else ever has. Without spoilers: you'll learn where the lamppost came from, who the White Witch is, and why one particular wardrobe matters so much.

It's the fourth Narnia film, after Walden Media's three (2005–2010), and Netflix's first, after it bought the rights to the series in 2018.

Who's In This Cast?

The cast includes David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep. Netflix hasn't officially confirmed most of the roles, so we won't guess who's playing whom. The trailer does show Aslan and the White Witch.

Who's Behind the Camera?

• Writer and director: Greta Gerwig, who also produces with Mark Gordon, Amy Pascal and Vincent Sieber-Smith.
• Cinematography: Seamus McGarvey (Atonement).
• Music: Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, the songwriters behind "I'm Just Ken".
• Budget: a reported $200–250 million.

• 12 February 2027: wide cinema release in the US, from Netflix (with Sony handling international).
• 2 April 2027: it starts streaming on Netflix.

It's the first Netflix film to get a major theatrical release. The original plan was a short IMAX run over Thanksgiving 2026.
